Shown in a rendered room
Architectural wall art, carved for one wall.
Carved wood wall panels, sized to one wall and one room, made in my studio in Geneva, Illinois, west of Chicago, and installed as part of the commission.
Sized to the wall it hangs on
Every piece starts with the wall: its size, the light that falls across it and what the room is for. I size the carving to that wall.
Texture, depth and shadow
Relief is what makes these work. The carving throws shadow, and the shadow moves as the light changes through the day. The wood, the grain and the finish are chosen for how the piece will be seen, close up and from across the room.
Homes and commercial spaces
A carved wall piece can finish a room in a home as well as a lobby, an office or a conference room. For commercial work I can work from the architect’s or the designer’s drawings and keep their design intent.
Delivery and installation
Delivery and installation are coordinated as part of the commission. Across Chicagoland, I generally handle them personally. Farther away, the piece travels white glove and installation is coordinated for the space. It isn’t finished until it is on the wall and looks the way we planned it.

Before you ask
- Are these custom CNC carved wall panels?
- The relief is cut on a CNC router, which is one of the tools I use. I choose the wood, size the piece to the wall, finish it and install it.
- Can a wall piece be sized for a specific wall?
- Yes. Each piece is sized to the wall it will hang on.
- Do you make wall art for commercial spaces?
- Yes. I would make one for an office, a conference room, a restaurant, a hotel or a stadium as readily as for a home, and I can work from an architect's or a designer's drawings.
- How long does a commission take?
- 6 to 12 weeks from design approval. The joinery, the curing and the finishing set the pace, and there are parts of fine furniture making that simply cannot be rushed without affecting the result. Expedited timelines may be available for select projects based on production capacity.
- What does a commission cost?
- Most commissions fall in the $6,000 to $20,000 range, and some fall outside it. Tell me the size, the wood and the budget you have in mind, and I can usually give you a rough price on the first call.
